PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE NIGHTMARE VERMONT IS A DRUG AND ALCOHOL-FREE EVENT!
We’ll rev you up on caffeine and sugar before you go in there, and we’ll ramp you up on thrills and chills once you’re in. Trust us, you won’t need ‘em.
1): What is Nightmare Vermont?
(A): Nightmare is a thrilling, interactive haunted house. It has run in underground spaces and as part of other events since 2004. It has garnered a reputation for cinema-level visual effects, engaging characters, and wild Halloween fun. The event has now found a home with the South Burlington Rotary, a collection of business leaders who connect for the good of the community. The Rotary has helped fulfill Nightmare Vermont’s purpose of being a creative outlet for the weird and unusual in our community. Scrappy evil geniuses team up with community leaders to bring you Vermont’s most exciting and unique event.
2): Is it the same show as last year?
(A): There is always fresh blood at Nightmare. Every year we create a completely different storyline. Did you get chased by zombies at the Olympiad? Were you menace by demons last year? Well look out, because all new terrors await you at the 2011 show. This time, there are teeth and claws involved.
3): Can I get involved in Nightmare?
(A): YES. We’re taking volunteers for Build Days, Tech Crew and Nightwatch (scare and character positions in the black maze, scenes, and Scareshack). Visit Volunteer Form to sign up or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for details. We have Build Days every Saturday from 10am-4pm on Picard Circle in South Burlington. Feel free to drop by and pitch in!
If your business would like to sell bulk tickets, has materials you would like to donate, or if you would like to sponsor the event, please contact us!
4): Will this event be too scary for me?
(A): Nightmare is for mature audiences and parental guidance is suggested for anyone under 13. The event is not for young children, as there are scary moments and some blood and mayhem. However, Nightmare is not a gross-out slasher event, it is a thrilling story. Expect to be startled and creeped, but mostly expect a good show. You don’t need to be a fan of horror to enjoy Nightmare Vermont. If you like visual spectacle and visceral entertainment, Nightmare will provide.
If you are a newbie to Nightmare or your crazy friends are dragging you here, you can purchase Monster Wards for $1 before you go into the event. Monster Wards are special necklaces that contain monster repellant. No monster will approach you if you are wearing a Monster Ward. Just DON’T get them confused with Monster Teasers, which will have the opposite effect. Only two Monster Teasers are sold per group and you have to sign a waiver.
5): What will happen to me at Nightmare?
(A): Heh heh heh. Uh. I mean. After you Park on Kirby Road Extension, you can test your nerve at the ScareShack. It’s filled with startles and frights and we dare you to make it through and still have enough of your sanity to do the rest of the show. You’ll then enter the Dark Art Gallery. The Gallery features Halloween themed art from local artists and young artists. Some pieces are for sale, so please consider supporting local artists and adding some dark art to your home or business.
You’ll then enter the first house in the haunted neighborhood and find yourself a part of Nightmare Vermont. You may find some friendly folks to help guide you through, but you may not be able to trust them. You’ll need to make your way through 11 creepy spaces, populated by various unsavory characters, to find your way out. You may get lost in a maze. You may need to claw your way through some walls. You may get chased by creatures. If you haven’t made it out in a little over an hour, you probably won’t make it out at all.
6): My ticket says 7pm. When should I arrive?
(A): Groups go into Nightmare about every 10 minutes. If you ticket says 7pm, you’ll get into the event sometime between 7pm and 7:30pm.
7): Whatever shall I wear?
(A): If you come in costume, we’ll think you’re cool. This is an entirely indoor event, so no need for heavy layers. You may need to run from hordes of the undead or get splattered with some kind of fluid, so we don’t recommend your silken delicates or elaborate ha ts. If you feel safer wearing Kevlar body armor, we’ll understand.
8): How long will it take to get through Nightmare Vermont?
(A): It should take a little over 1 hour once you enter the event.
9): Is Nightmare Vermont handicapped accessible?
(A): Unfortunately, no. The abandoned buildings have no handicapped accessible entrances. Nightmare hopes to find an accessible venue in the coming years, but while we’re poor, we have to make do with abandoned buildings.
